If you're noticing that the heat coming out of your vents isn't quite what it use to be, then you're probably dealing with low engine coolant.

You can loose coolant from your engine in a number of ways, and the evidence of that coolant loss first shows up in winter when you have the heat turned on. The heat you receive inside your vehicle is a result of cold air being blown across the heater core, which heats it and blows it into the vehicle.

The heater core is positioned in a highpoint relative to your engine. So when coolant levels begin to drop the result is a heater core with limited hot coolant circulating through it, and therefor less heat inside your vehicle.

The solution is fairly straight forward... add coolant. But of course have your coolant system tested as coolant leaks can lead to major engine damage and a dead vehicle on the side of a cold road.
